A short distance North of the Pyramids at Abu Sir at least two 5th Dynasty Pharaohs built 'Sun Temples'. This mound was thought in the 19th century to be the remains of a pyramid but it is now thought it is a base structure for an obelisk made from stone blocks. It is the Sun Temple of Niuserre.
